The tradition of harvesting your own food from the land remains a popular pastime in Kodiak. While some activities, like hunting and fishing, require a great deal of gear and preparation, other activities, like berry picking, are better suited for the casual naturalist.
While the best locations for berry picking are closely guarded secrets, some berries to look for include: blueberries, raspberries, cloudberries, lingonberries (also called low-bush cranberries), high-bush cranberries, salmonberries, and crowberries.
