Fishing

Kodiak Island has exceptional fishing, both offshore saltwater and many freshwater rivers on the island. Two of the most popular sportfish are halibut and salmon.

Halibut is the world’s largest flatfish, growing to over 400 lbs. and is abundant in the waters near Kodiak Island. Cliff Point residents can leave from the harbor and within minutes drop a fishing line into the deep waters. Halibut are prized for fish & chips.

Salmon are big, fight like wildcats, have the best flavor and are one of the healthiest foods on the planet. When you also consider they’re found in some of the most beautiful waterways on Earth, salmon are king.

All five species of Pacific salmon can be fished here, from monster kings to dime-bright sockeyes, on a fly rod in a silent canyon river, on a boat in the ocean (even during winter!) or on a rocky beach with a dip net.

People around the world plan Kodiak fishing trips for years, but you can do it whenever you want. Keep a boat in the harbor, jump on one of the many charters based here, or simply drive to a local river. Owning a home at Cliff Point gives you easy access to something other people consider a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

When you own a place on Kodiak, your freezer – and your grill – will never be short of wild Alaska seafood.
